      Hi jpo768,
Well, that does kind of take up most of my time actually! There’s a lot more work goes into it than it first sounds, mostly because there is so much good research out there but we only have a certain amount of money. So we have to make some difficult decisions about whch projects to give the money to, and we have to make sure we are being fair and consistent in the way we do it. There is a lot of information that has to be looked at in detail, and then we have to draw that all together to figure out what the best options are.

Let’s see…other stuff I do in work…I go to meet people with similar jobs to me who work for funding agencies in other countries (mainly Europe). This helps us work together better when there is a new big science project we want to fund. Often these days they are so big and expensive that one country on it’s own can’t afford it, so we have to work with other countries to make it happen.

And outside of work I like sports (mainly badminton and running), meeting up with friends, cooking nice food, music, films….

Hope that helped answer your question!
