      Good quetsion!

Today I answered some emails, and organised my timetable for the week. And I’ve done a couple of IMAS live chats. Then I went and had lunch with the rest of my group. After lunch I wrote a reference letter for one of my students who’s applying for a job. And then I went down to the lab to make sure that things were running ok, and talked to the students a bit. And now I’m back in the office to answer some IMAS questions 🙂

      Hi tarax

Well, I’ve had quite a productive day. By using some jiggerypokery(yes that is a technical term) I have managed to speed up some data analysis software so it takes only 30 minutes to run rather then 48 which it took this morning. Good day 🙂

Oh, also I have been in some live chats, and answered some questions like this one 🙂

      answered these questions mostly!

other than that, i went to a meeting where one of my colleagues showed me how to use his software to perform a particular measurement on our accelerators later this week. I dropped in on my group leader to tell her my progress with a computer simulation. I had lunch (pie and peas, mmm). Next i’m going to check with our IT people – i’m expecting a new laptop.
Things that i’m supposed to do but haven’t yet – i need to brush up a document for a research proposal, and read a thesis and some research papers to help me design our next accelerator.

IAS chats, answered some of the IAS questions, answered e-mails, attended meetings, added some new features to the code I am working on and have uploaded the start of an internal note. Next I have a meeting with a teacher and outreach guys here at Uni then off to another meeting to talk about organising more fun science events in pubs and bars around London. Typical untypical day, very busy – never enough hours in the day but I enjoy all of it.

Oh and I need to book my January Japan flights…. knew there was something I forgot.

Today I got in just after 9, spent some time replying to emails that came in over the weekend. I’ve had 2 IAS live chats and have tried to answer a few more IAS questions – that’s taken most of my time today. I also went to a meeting between some of the other research councils and the Institute of Physics, which was rather interesting. Plenty other stuff on my to-do list, like preparing briefing notes for one of our expert panels on a couple of proposals which are being reviewed in December. Later this week I’ll be up at the Daresbury lab in Cheshire to meet with the UK’s nuclear physics academics to talk about projects they would like to get funding for in future.
