I would have to go with 1984 by George Orwell closely followed by the similar books A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham. Any kind of bleak view of the future seems to be a favourite of mine.
Science wise you cannot beat the Feynman Lectures series of books – so well explained.

Probably “The Outsider” by Albert Camus if I’m in a serious mood. Anything about Jeeves and Wooster (P.G. Wodehouse) if I’m not.

I really like all Terry Pratchets books, But Good Omens by him and Neil Gaimen is one of my all time Favourites.

I read the first one (but a long time after it first came out)….I didn’t get hooked I’m afraid. As a 20-something year old I didn’t identify much with the characters. I think if I’d been the right age when they came out I probably would have got into them.

I liked them apart from Order of the Phoenix, which annoyed me a bit cause nothing really happened. Much preferred the film for that one.
