      metals are (mostly) naturally occuring, they didn’t need inventing.

      if you mean, who grouped them together as metals. Well, Medeleev is usually credited with the invention of the periodic table.

      The discovery of metals and the ability to get them out of rocks is the main scientific discovery which ended the stone age and started the historic periods known as the Metal Ages age (Bronze age and Iron age)
